Google Adwords and Beyond Workshop Planned for April 28th

Since I did the first workshop in Feb2009 Google Adwords has changed dramatically and continues to change on an almost daily basis.

In general it has become more expensive to compete in the Google Search Network but there are still opportunities galore if you know what you're doing

The Google Adwords network is split into 3 different types of networks:

  1. The most familiar one being the Search network where you bid on individual keywords. This network, while big, is limited in size but is a highly targeted way to reach an audience.
  2. In conjunction with the Search network is the Google Partner Network. It's not possible to run on this network without running the Search Network in parallel. Search partners of Google include AOl, Amazon and other very large web properties. This network is far less targeted but there is a lot of exposure to high traffic well respected websites.
  3. The Content Network... this is massive and it's not unusual to see hundreds of thousands of impressions per day. And while the CTR of these campaigns tends to be lower than on the Search network it is still possible to generate many thousands of clicks per day. The targeting on the Content Network is more akin to interest based advertising and relies upon your ads being shown on relevant websites not belonging to Google or its partners. For example I own many websites on which Google displays Content Network ads (these are called Adsense sites).

You may have heard me talk of the Content Network as being a completely different animal to the Search network. This is true in almost every single aspect related to a conventional Adwords set up. Being an expert on the Search network does not mean that you will be expert on the Content Network.

It is in the area of the Content Network that the workshop has changed most. In the earlier workshops attention paid to the Content Network was about 15% of the time. In the latest workshop at least double the time will be devoted to conquering the Content Network since this is where competition is much less and potential success is much higher. Equally the potential to lose money is much higher.
