SEOza Survey Results.. December 2009 to April 9th 2010... 172 Responses

I have been running a survey on SEOza.com since December 7th 2010. To date 172 people have filled in the survey form and I would like to thank them very much. Here are the results of survey so far:

Question1 Question was: Select the most important strategy you've chosen to generate large volumes of targeted traffic to your site in 2010.
The results show that only a very small proportion of responders were considering Autoresponder marketing... yet this is by far THE MOST IMPORTANT CHALLENGE FACING MOST ONLINE ORGANISATIONS. Another important observation was that few people were interested in banner advertising. Once again this is probably the most lucrative form of online marketing using Google Adwords that it's possible to get. The traditional banner advertising model pushed in South Africa is on the other hand a total waste of money. Read my recent article about Banner Ad Rip-Offs
Question 2 Question was: What is the value of a visitor to your site? The fact of the matter is that unless you have a good idea (even if in the beginning it is an educated guess) then you will never be able to run a successful online ad campaign of any kind. Every website and tarffic generating mechanism is an investment in money (time also costs money). A successful website is one where income exceeds costs. Google Adwords is the ultimate in objective advertising measurement... on a daily basis too.
Question 3 Question was: How many visitors to site convert (ie do what you want them to do)? The same point applies here. If you don't know how many conversions your website is achieving (no matter what the source of traffic) then it's hardly possible to invest in a meaningful online campaign. Every campaign is different and conversions can be anything up to 100%. It is believed that an overall average is about 2%.
Question 4 Question was: What's your preferred Internet Marketing learning method? In view of the prominence given to webinars over last 2 years or so I would have expected a higher response. I was not surprised to see that reading was by far the preferred way of learning.
Train Trip Question was: Would you be interested in a workshop to be held on the Premier Classe train service to Cape Town?... 10 people actually did attend the Train Workshop held in March and it was a success. 3 people came back on the train with me.
The one mistake I made was I didn't take a microphone along.

ANSWER to response question posed above... VERY IMPORTANT OBSERVATION

I promoted the survey frequently to my email database during the first 40 days or so and then backed off. From this time on the only access to the survey form was through my website link (now removed from most pages). The result was that despite many people seeing my website link the response to my request to complete the survey form was greater and more positive when I promoted it specifically to my own database. This is why autoresponder marketing and collection of email addresses is so vitally important.

About 80% of the money I spend on Google Adwords is geared to building up email lists for future marketing opportunities.
